"De Feministische Anarchistische Madammen (FAM) hebben zich sinds 1997 georganiseerd en komen om de 3 weken samen in Gent. Wij willen ons bezighouden met anarcha-feminisme, dat de strijd van vrouwen voor gelijkwaardige posities nadrukkelijk in een breder kader plaatst. Wij willen het feminisme binnen brengen in het anarchisme, maar ook het anarchisme in het feminisme. Dit doen we door inhoudelijke discussies te voeren en af en toe workshops en acties te organiseren die gericht zijn tot een breder publiek. Enkele thema's die aan bod zijn gekomen : vrouwen in oorlog, verkiezingen, vrije meningsuiting en vrije seksualiteitsbeleving, vrouwenorganisaties in andere kulturen/continenten...
Het breder kader waarin we de vrouwenstrijd zien, gaat erom dat we meer dan alleen de onderdrukkende sekseverhoudingen willen doorbreken, of kapitalistische uitbuitingen opheffen. Alle onderdrukkende structuren en alle machtsverhoudingen tussen mensen willen we bevragen."

"Axis, Foundation for Gender and the Arts, was founded in 1997. Axis initiates and organizes projects such as exhibitions, film and video programmes, symposia and lectures in the area of the visual arts (including new media), performing arts, literature, music and mass media. The introduction of the term "gender," which relates the definition of the sexes to their changing context, and of the concepts "transgender" and "queer," broader interpretations of "gay" and "lesbian," marks the new range of visions on sexual identity. In its programming, Axis focuses on the interchange between the development of these theories and art practice, and seeks to show the influence of unconventional views about sexual identity in art. Special focuses of attention are visions of the future (a theme that was raised by the Avatar event, in response to developments in digital culture), commentary on the mass media (discussed in the "F/M on TV" debates on the basis of the rise of the woman detective), and intercultural interactions (on gender and the visual arts in a worldwide perspective, brought together in the web project "Changing Images")."

Summer, circa 1991. From 1991 - 1997 they presented several installations
and public art works in Australia and overseas, working with new media,

was to investigate and decipher the narratives of domination and control
which surround high technological culture, and explore the construction
